Salt air and sand
Wind off the ocean drives salt and fine sand into keyways. Pins stick, springs rust and keys start to turn only halfway. A locksmith can strip, clean and lubricate a cylinder, and replace it if it has pitted. Stainless or solid brass hardware lasts much longer here than plated zinc.
Cottages and rentals
Many homes on the Peninsula are rented by the week in summer. Owners rekey between seasons and often switch to keypad deadbolts so guests never hold a key at all. Choose a model sealed for outdoor use and keep spare batteries in the unit.
Balboa Village shops
Shops along Main Street and around the Pavilion and the ferry landing open early and close late in season. Storefront locks, roll-up door padlocks and back-door deadbolts are the usual calls. Mention the alley access if the job is at the back.
Cars near the Wedge
Beach parking at the end of the Peninsula sees regular car lockouts, often with keys left on a towel. Give the street or the parking lot and a landmark, and keep an eye on the car until the technician arrives.
Parking
Street parking is tight in summer. If you have a driveway or alley space, say so on the call.
Peninsula Point and the beach houses
Toward Peninsula Point the houses get bigger and the lots stay small, so side gates, garage service doors and rooftop deck doors all carry locks. Many owners key them all alike so a renter carries one key; that can usually be done by rekeying, without new hardware.

Pier 02 · Questions
Locksmith 92661 FAQ
Why does my lock keep sticking?
Salt and sand in the keyway. Cleaning and a dry lubricant help; a corroded cylinder needs replacing.
Do keypad locks survive beach weather?
Sealed outdoor models do well. Cheap units fail quickly. Ask for a recommendation before buying.
Can you get to the end of the Peninsula in summer?
Yes, but traffic on Balboa Boulevard varies. Ask about availability and plan for parking.
Do you cover Balboa Village shops in winter?
Yes, all year. Off-season is a good time for shop rekeys and lock repairs, before the summer crowds return.
Can I key my rental's doors alike?
Usually. If the locks share a keyway, they can be rekeyed to one key; mixed brands may need a cylinder swap.
